Hey folks,
This post is for someone with SoundMax experience in Windows Media
Player.
I have a dedicated htpc using a P4R800-VM running MCE2004 using nothing
more than the onboard SoundMax AC1888 s/pdif out to a digital receiver. I
have Cyberlink's PowerDVD5 installed and can get AC3 pass-through just fine
to my receiver. However, under Windows Media Player (and MCE2004's DVD
config) I cannot get full AC3 pass-through; the s/pdif option cannot be
selected. And yet, Windows Media Player is using the same codec! Seems
Windows Media Player's audio config is dependent on the system speaker
config/selection. Here's the weird part now. If I select 5.1 speakers in the
system speaker config, DVDs in PowerDVD and Windows Media Player play at
~120X their normal speed and I get no audio. I am convinced this is a
SoundMax AC1888 issue, which is why I am writing here because the same weird
behavior occurs no matter what DVD application I use. Does the AC1888 chip
have plug-sensing technology or something?
Anyone have any idea how to resolve this such that I can get full AC3
pass-through under Windows Media Player?
Thanks,
Dave
